Welcome! I’m Curtis. A Detroit native turned Brooklyn, New York for 12 years, and now Dallas transplant. After an unfulfilling career in tech sales, I found my calling in education. Halfway through my teaching career, my mother passed away and I used mindfulness to process and heal this major life event. I began introducing what I learned to support myself to my students and the rest was history!
I created Moment of Mindfulness LLC (MOM), a mindfulness methodology and company committed to empowering communities and organizations with mindfulness tools and education. This mindfulness-based approach to mental and emotional health creates a shift in the paradigm of performance. MOM represents nearly a decade of research by leaders in mindfulness-based practices, neuroscience, and performance optimization.
In 2013, I co-founded one of the top-rated public middle schools in Brooklyn, New York, and developed a successful school-wide mindfulness program. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to design and lead mindfulness programming and workshops for District 19 in the New York City Department of Education and their chapter of Barack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance. With my groundbreaking methodology, I’ve transformed thousands of lives in over 33 NYC Public schools with the use of music, movement, art, and writing to activate the science-based benefits of mindfulness.
Currently, I partner with the NYC Department of Education, hosting district-wide mindfulness sessions to young boys of color and providing engagement workshops to their leadership teams. Recently, I began leading mindfulness programming for Dekalb County School District (Atlanta), Norwalk School District (Connecticut), and Trio Upward Bound for Minnesota Public Schools. I’m also the Mindfulness Content Lead at Alkeme Health, a Founding Educator at Roundglass, Mindfulness Teacher at Electives, and a Mindfulness Coach at Wellness Coach. I feel extremely grateful to wake up every day and do “work” that I’m passionate about.
