I've been there. I struggled with excess weight my entire life. At one point I peaked at over 400 pounds. I'm not sure how far over because I couldn't find a scale that went up that high.
I was a little concerned for my health and definitely very embarrassed by my appearance, but the part that bothered me the most was that there were so many things I just couldn't do. More than a few times, I decided to stand because none of the available seats could handle my size and/or my weight. Finding clothes was a constant struggle and was less about finding things I liked and more of a search for anything that might fit. I didn't even try to get on an amusement park ride for almost 20 years and I dreaded the idea of sitting in a plane seat.
Over and over I had success followed by stagnation. Sometimes in anger and sometimes through tears, I can't count the number of times I just said, "I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do, why isn't this working?"
One day I completely gave up trying to do it my way. I reached out to people who knew how to help. That was the beginning of Phase Two of my life. It turns out I hadn't known nearly as much about nutrition and physiology as I'd thought. I got the information I needed and applied it and now I'm finally free.
I went from dreading going up a single flight of stairs in my house to running a triathlon, a marathon, and two Sprint and Super Distance Spartan Races.
