Pilates for Flexibility and Splits with Melissa

Hello! I am Melissa, also known as @melilates. I am a Pilates Instructor and Nutrition Coach. I am very passionate about helping others reach their fitness and nutrition goals. For this group class: Pilates for Flexibility and Splits, I recommend taking the class weekly, every Friday at 6pm EST, in order to really improve your flexibility. I will also give you exercises to practice on your own between classes in order to best take advantage of the classes.

A little bit about pilates: Pilates first and foremost focuses on the core and spine. Your core is everything from your shoulders to your pelvis, 360 degrees. In every class we work on strengthening and mobilizing your spine in all four directions: flexion, extension, lateral flexion, and rotation. Pilates also works on flexibility, mobility, breathing, mind-body connection, and so much more. Pilates is great to practice on its own, but it also pairs really well with other activities. If you are an athlete, pilates can enhance your athletic performance.

The focus of this class, however, is flexibility. Primarily we will be working on hip and leg flexibility in order to achieve front and middle splits. This is an introductory course for those who have little to no experience stretching. Do not feel intimidated. Splits take a long time of consistent stretching to achieve and it is possible for anyone, no matter the age and experience, as long as you have the dedication. As a certified instructor, I will also walk you through safe practices to avoid injuries while stretching.

Since this is a group class, the sessions will focus on the goal of pilates for flexibility and splits, but I also offer individual classes on this platform if you would like more personalized attention. I give mat pilates classes and I use props depending on what you have at home. This could include a small ball, exercise bands, and yoga blocks, among others.

Since this is a group session, I do not offer a free 15 minute call. However, on my other listings I do offer that option and you could contact me through another link if you would like to meet me before taking the class.

What to expect in a meeting: You will need clothing that allows you to stretch and move along with a mat. Further helpful materials (although not mandatory) are yoga blocks and exercise bands.
