In this session we will be covering some balancing breath techniques which have the power to leave you feeling simultaneously energized and relaxed. The techniques we will be covering in this session include: nadi shodhana, sama vritti, and dirga pranayama.
Nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) is a technique that involves equal activation of the lunar and solar channels. This is done through inhaling through one nostril, exhaling through the other, and then switching. It balances the energies of the body as well as the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
Sama vritti (box breathing) requires one to equalize all aspects of the breath. Typically this involves breathing in for a count of 4, retaining the breath for a count of 4, exhaling for a count of 4, and then retaining the breath again for a count of 4. It improves lung capacity and is excellent for beginners.
Dirga pranayama (full yogic breathing) is a technique whereby one breathes into all three portions of the lungs. It is arguably one of the most popular (and important) breathing practices used amongst yogis.
As always, I encourage you to go at your own pace and I hope you enjoy!
