As we grow up and function throughout life, we all experience a certain amount of labeling, categorizing, and programming. We’re taught things and assimilate variables from our environments that cue us to do what is expected, so we usually do. Sometimes, what is taught and expected is just the right thing and good for us. Sometimes, what is taught and expected is good for OTHERS and goes absolutely against our own grains, gifts, personalities, and purposes. What can happen is that, as we live out certain programming and acquire different labels, we inadvertently live out all of the pigeon-holing and expectations of others, completely missing what we were created for, long for, how we can best contribute, and what we enjoy. As a result, we can spend our lives functioning at a very mediocre, people-pleasing level, never fully reaching our potential or purpose and feeling all the while like something is missing or “off.”
