According to psychotherapy, positive change cannot happen without a willingness to bring about the change. To overcome substance abuse, one must first accept that this is a habit that is self-destructive. Once that first hurdle is won, then there must be a desire to see that the habit stops. After that, the person must then admit that they need help and that is where professionals come in who can point the person in the right direction, by walking with them through the change.
I will not say that this is an easy journey but it will be worth it in the end because one of the causes of relationship breakdowns and the destruction of families and homes is substance abuse which is on the rise in our society today.
