Julie Rossignol
Occupational Therapist, Certified Lymphedema Therapist and Health Coach
Hello, my name is Julie Rossignol. I am a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist, graduate from the Occupational therapy program at the University of Montreal in 1992. I got my Lymphedema Management Certification from the Klose school and became a Certified LANA (Lymphology Association of North America) in 2003. I am also a certified Oncology Rehabilitation Specialist and a Hand Therapist. Besides providing one on one care for my clients in outpatient clinics, I have dedicated a large portion of my career studying and keeping up to date with lymphedema management and studying how to improve the lymphatic system in general. I have attended many seminars associated with health and restoration of health. I have also been a guess speaker for physicians, nurses and rehabilitation therapists and for cancer related community associations such as the Stowe Weekend of Hope and Dragonheart Vermont.
The lymphatic system is crucial for optimal functioning of our general and specific immune response. It is composed of many essential organs including the lymphatic vessels (the superficial and deep ones), the lymph nodes, the spleen, the thymus and other organs such as the lymphoid tissue (the tonsils, the Peyer’s patches, the appendix and even the bone marrow).
The lymphatic system roles are many. The lymphatic system acts as the “sewerage system”, protector and defender of the body. It maintains the level of fluid in our body. It carries the fluid containing cellular waste, debris, toxins, bacteria, infections, pathogens and malignant cells to the lymph nodes and other lymphatic organs that will then monitor and responds by producing cells and antibodies which protects our body. The lymphatic system also plays an important role in the absorption of fats from the intestine.
When it is not functioning well due to damage to the lymphatic system or problems with movement and drainage of the fluid from infection, injury, inflammation, cancer treatment, Lyme’s disease or even stress and breathing dysfunction, the faulty lymphatic system may have a role in obesity, Crohn’s disease and other disorders, infections and recurrent infections, swelling and chronic primary and secondary lymphedema. Other more subtle symptoms of a sluggish lymphatic system may include headaches, chronic fatigue, bloating, skin issues and brain fog.
Unfortunately, the lymphatic system has only recently gained serious focus with the medical community and general public and is still profoundly misunderstood and underestimated. There is a lot of misinformation out there with only a few robust scientific methodologies and assistance available. For those who are interested this subject or interested in doing true significant change and improvement to their lymphatic system, this is where my expertise, experience and skills can help.
There are many things that can be done to help improve or “detox” the lymphatic system. They include (but are not limited to) superficial lymph drainage, diet and weight loss, exercises and resetting of functional breathing, stress relieving methods, specialized clothing and equipment and more.
