Hey there! I’m Kaylene. I am a NASM certified personal trainer who focuses on strength and resistance training as a means to get my clients feeling AND looking their best. Whether you want to crush your personal best, build lasting muscle, or simply feel stronger and more confident, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
I believe that true fitness isn’t about quick fixes or extreme diets – it’s about creating a balanced, sustainable lifestyle that empowers you for the long haul- not punishes you. From dynamic strength training sessions to mindset shifts, we’ll work together to build not just a stronger body, but a stronger mind, too.
I use simple principles of progressive overload to individualize programs based on ability, equipment available to clients, and time. The best way to jumpstart a fitness journey is with the right professional guidance to ensure you aren’t just getting physical results, but you’re gaining a better understanding of how your body works, too.
The science behind resistance training makes it the most well rounded approach to fitness. The benefits far outweigh those of running or body weight workouts (hard to progress with these!).
So what are they?
- Building muscle and strength The most obvious benefit—strength training helps you build lean muscle and increase strength. Over time, you’ll feel stronger, which makes everyday tasks like lifting groceries, carrying bags, or even climbing stairs easier.
- Boosts Metabolism Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than fat does. So, the more muscle you have, the higher your resting metabolic rate (RMR). This means if you build muscle- you'll actually be able to eat more without gaining fat!
- Improves Bone Health Strength training helps increase bone density, which can reduce the risk of osteoporosis as you age. It’s one of the best ways to protect your bones and keep them strong. This is why I am a huge advocate for women to strength train- as they are more susceptible to bone and joint disease.
- Enhances Posture & Stability Stronger muscles lead to better posture and body alignment. This helps reduce strain on your joints and spine, which can prevent pain and injury in the long run.
- Increases Functional Fitness Strength training improves functional movements—everything from bending over to pick something up to squatting to tie your shoes. This translates to greater mobility and independence, especially as you get older.
- Improves Mental Health Lifting weights has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. The sense of accomplishment after a tough workout can boost your confidence and improve your overall mood.
- Supports Joint Health & Flexibility When done correctly, strength training can help improve the health and flexibility of your joints, making them more resilient to injury and improving range of motion.
- Helps Manage Weight Strength training increases muscle mass, which helps your body burn more calories at rest. Plus, the after-burn effect (EPOC) means you continue burning calories after the workout is over, even while you're resting.
- Increases Athletic Performance Stronger muscles lead to better performance in other areas of fitness, like running, cycling, or even sports. Strength training enhances power, speed, and endurance.
- Promotes Longevity & Quality of Life A consistent strength training routine is linked to healthier aging, reducing the risk of chronic diseases, and improving your overall quality of life as you age. It can help you stay active, independent, and mobile as you grow older.
