Growing a Therapeutic Garden with Gianna

Session Overview
Welcome to “Growing a Therapeutic Garden,” where the art and science of horticultural therapy merge with the healing potential of herbalism. This session is designed to guide you in creating a personalized garden tailored to your unique wellness goals and intentions. Whether you're seeking relief from stress, enhancing your mental clarity, looking to optimize nutrient density in your diet, or simply exploring the therapeutic benefits of gardening, this session offers a holistic approach to nurturing your well-being through the power of plants. A bit about your guide: My name is Gianna Corallo, and I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a focus on Plant Science and Horticultural Therapy, where I also became certified in Medicinal and Aromatic Botany. Currently, I am training as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach with the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I believe that not only are plants potent medicine, but the act of growing a garden is inherently therapeutic as well!

What to Expect
In this one-on-one session, you will embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth by integrating the principles of horticultural therapy with practical herbalism. Our time together will be tailored to your individual needs and can encompass the following elements:
Principles of Horticultural Therapy: We’ll start by outlining the fundamentals of horticultural therapy, including its purpose, benefits, and how it can be applied to address your specific physical, mental, or emotional goals. This foundation will help you understand how exactly gardening can serve as a therapeutic tool for you.
Personalized Goal & Garden Planning: We’ll discuss your wellness goals and any specific challenges you’re facing. Based on this conversation, I will help you design a therapeutic garden for your space that aligns with your intentions. Whether you’re interested in reducing anxiety, improving sleep quality, or boosting your mood, I will guide you in selecting the most beneficial plants to achieve these outcomes, while also considering your geolocation.
Herbal Education and Selection: Drawing from my background in herbalism, I will provide you with insights into various medicinal herbs and their benefits. For example, if you struggle with insomnia, we might explore the virtues of calming herbs like chamomile, valerian, or passionflower. I will also consider your local climate and available space to recommend plants that will thrive in your environment.
Gardening Techniques and Best Practices: I will share practical tips and techniques for growing and caring for your chosen plants. From soil preparation to plant maintenance to affordable hacks, you will gain valuable knowledge on how to cultivate your therapeutic garden effectively.
Mindfulness and Therapeutic Gardening: Embrace the healing aspects of gardening through mindfulness practices integrated into your gardening routine. Do you know of the antidepressant impacts of living soil? Are you aware of the beneficial negative ions emitting from the Earth at every moment? I will guide you on how to recognize and be mindful of how the Earth, by her very nature, is supporting our wellness, and how to incorporate relaxation and meditative techniques into your gardening activities, effectively enhancing the therapeutic benefits.
Ongoing Support and Resources: Your journey doesn’t end with our session. I will provide you with resources and tools to continue your gardening practice confidently. Additionally, I am available for follow-up consultations to address any questions or adjustments you might need as your garden evolves!
