Protein, protein, protein… This macronutrient is essential for the 1-hour-olds to the 100-year-olds. In every stage of life protein has so many roles. Sometimes protein can get a bad rap for where it is coming from. But the bottom-line is, it is necessary for proper bodily functions from growing muscles, healing wounds, pregnancy and breastfeeding, puberty, hormone creation and balance to even vitamin absorption in our digestive tract.
A few years ago I trained for an Ultramarathon (over 30 miles) while following a plant-based diet. I consumed lots of different sources of protein from plants, some from animal sources and some from a plant-based protein powder. I have not followed that diet pattern since because it is not necessary for my body at this time. Currently, I follow a balanced diet of animal and plant proteins, although my needs are different from when I trained for that race, the role of protein in my diet is just as important.
In this session, let's chat about this magic macronutrient, its many sources, and how it can best fit into your life and support your health goals. I can calculate your basic protein needs and we can discuss your goals for protein in your life. Maybe you just want help prioritizing protein at each meal time, or maybe you are trying to build muscle or support your recovery after exercise. This session is not only for education but also to help guide you to improved nutrition and health by focusing on your protein intake.
