My “Narrative Mastery” system is designed to challenge the outdated or false notions you are carrying about your self and life story.
Take control of the narrative! Break free of limiting beliefs and inaccurate storylines during three 90-minute sessions - I'm proud to now be offering this program here on WellMeRight!
We'll move through three "phases" over the course of our sessions. The pace is intensive, but rewarding. My goal is to use our time to the fullest and help you rebuild the stories that shape your sense of self and well-being to spark positive outcomes. I, of course, welcome you to explore further coaching after this three session program should there be specific areas you are seeking clarity in.
- Phase One: Origin Story
Explore: Through candid conversation we work to piece together the defining narrative you have built around your life and sense of self. Without ascribing blame or judgment we investigate external influences (societal pressures, stressors in early life) in order to identify how they played a role in the formation of the story. We contemplate the ways in which these narratives become so deeply internalized that they often serve as the root of dysfunctional behaviors (negative inner monologue, people-pleasing, rumination, comparison to others, overwhelming desire to control) that prevent joy and squander opportunity in daily life.
Result: We are able to pinpoint how and why the current story is outdated, identify the maladaptive behaviors or habits that have formed over the years in order to reinforce the narrative, and begin opening ourselves up to the possibility that a more compassionate view of ourselves is long overdue. If we can break free from the limiting beliefs that brought us to the point, we can view ourselves and our potential in a new light. Consequently, our world begins to expand.
- Phase Two: Plot Twists
Explore: If you throw the old story out, what will take its place? We discuss the tension that exists between where you are and where you’d like to be. In this “chicken-and-egg” situation, we consider how a more empowering narrative about ourselves reinforces more healthy, adaptive behavior (and vice versa). What tools can we implement to tackle the most destructive of your maladaptive behaviors and keep you in a growth mindset?
Result: We are able to interrupt the narrative, or throw it out completely, in order to cultivate a more powerful story to live by. These revelations help us forge a different path forward as we use our interests and passions as a road map to what will fulfill us most in the future. Now that we aren’t stifled by a restrictive notion of self, we open ourselves up to fresh possibilities and feel more inclined to work toward self-improvement.
- Phase Three: Resolution
Explore: What positive changes have you identified over the course of this journey? Could the existing narrative be refined even further? We reflect on which tools have been most effective in reinforcing a more empowered sense of self and identify the areas in which more work is needed. We contemplate how best to internalize this fresher view of our self and acknowledge that we will stumble back into old habits now and then. How do we reset and not fall back into dysfunctional narratives or behavior?
Result: We have created a more gracious and multi-faceted view of ourselves and what we have to offer others personally and professionally. In place of shame or self-punishment we strive toward self-acceptance and recognize that the work is ongoing; even if we stumble there are constant opportunities to redirect. The current narrative cannot coexist well with dysfunctional behavior so we practice mindfulness over rumination, positive affirmations over negative inner monologues, and resist the urge to compare ourselves to others or seek to control what is out of our hands. We inherently believe in our capacity to skillfully handle whatever the next chapter brings us.
