The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based listening therapy designed to reduce sound sensitivities and improve auditory processing, behavioral state regulation, and social engagement behaviors through filtered music. As a practical application of Polyvagal Theory, the SSP acts as a non-invasive, acoustic vagal nerve stimulator, helping to re-tune the nervous system to better support connection, collaboration and resilience.
The SSP involves listening to specially filtered music through headphones alongside a provider, in-person or remotely. Suitable for children and adults, the SSP has demonstrated benefits for individuals with trauma, anxiety, sensory processing differences and more.

Session 1-Intake Assessment and a short treatment with follow-up

Session 3-Safe and Sound Session and assessment
If suitable the remote program will be available for clients between treatment sessions.
Session 4-Safe and Sound Session and followup focused on supporting somatic processing and nervous system regulation.

What to expect in a meeting: The session will take place on-line, please ensure you have a quiet space available with over the ear headphones. The session will include a health intake and assessment, followed by an introduction to the safe and sound program. The program length will depend on the client’s response. The session may include movements or breathing exercises to ensure nervous system regulation prior to completing the session.
