Most women in our society struggle with fully accepting their body, in part due to pressure from the media to conform to unrealistic standards of “ideal” body size and shape. In addition, the diet and cosmetic industry further pushes this idea that all women should strive for a certain “look.”
Many women also feel a sense of shame about their bodies, in part due to the objectification and early sexualization of the female body.
During these three sessions, we will examine sources of negative body-image, body-shame, and disordered eating. We’ll learn how to love our bodies as they are in this moment, rather than believing we need to alter or modify them. We will develop an inclusive definition of true beauty, focusing on what’s really important, rather than superficial things such as hair color, facial features, or body size.
We will remind ourselves that sensual pleasures, including consensual physical touch and sexuality, as well as preparing and eating food, are experiences for us to enjoy, rather than shameful or bad things to avoid. We’ll also talk about the dangers of sensual deprivation, diet-culture, fat-shaming, eating disorders, and over-exercising.
The sessions, if you'd like, can include gentle yoga, pranayama, (breath work), and guided meditation.
