Hello!
My name is Michael Zamora but just call me Mikey Z. I'm a Certified Personal Trainer with a specialty in Powerlifting. Or in other terms, the focus of strength in the squat, bench and deadlift specifically. Although powerlifting may be my personal favored form of discipline. The knowledge and experience I've gained throughout my years has helped me train individuals in general fitness successfully as well.
My interest in training started almost 10 years ago and eventually I found powerlifting meets and found myself obsessed. Unfortunately like many newbies in the sport, I developed pains and injuries, specifically in my lower back and legs. I sought massage therapy, chiropractors and even did acupuncture. All these methods had varying degrees of success but none could completely "cure" me of my pains. Eventually I decided to figure things out myself and this lead me to programming, biomechanics and anatomy. By fixing my technique with a lot of patience, and learning how to properly load and manage my training, I was able to recover from my injuries.
Soon my reputation grew in the gym and I began to be known as the "form specialist". I constantly gave and was asked on advice about form, technique and general weight training. This eventually brought me to ask myself "could I do this as a job?"
In 2022 I took my first step in becoming a coach by taking Pre- Script Barbell. A 9 week course focusing on the Squat, Bench and Deadlift. This course gave me the skills to properly train, teach and program. Which gave me a great foundation and soon I picked up my first client. He was a complete novice and by the end of the year he entered his first powerlifting competition and now boasts a 600lb squat, 335lb bench and 545lb deadlift. Since then I have coached another client into their first competition and have coached many others in general weight training as well.
I also took Pre-Script Level 1 and Level 2. Which cover functional anatomy and biomechanics, with an emphasis on how to properly assign exercises that keep people moving and feeling healthy. Instead of spending hours doing mobility work or taking time off of training only after a person has gotten hurt. Pre-Script is about asking better questions and assessing situations that way we can "exercise correctly" instead of looking for "corrective exercises".
Over the years I've developed a keen eye for details in training but I also understand that more than anything else, it's about the unique human being that is being coached. The reason why so many people give up on their fitness journey is due to a lack confidence. Whether that is because of a lack of knowledge on how to train properly or after developing pain or injuries (much like I did).
MY goal is to be the conduit that leads people to have confidence in themselves, their abilities and tackle their workouts. And if and when we run into issues, know that I will do everything in my power to solve the problem. So that you can keep going and reach YOUR goals.
