This program is designed to equip you with strategies to maintain a balanced diet while enjoying your travels. Departure planning is crucial, emphasizing the importance of packing nutritious snacks packed with protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals to sustain satiety before you reach your destination and promote overall immune function
Staying hydrated will be reviewed, especially considering the risk for dehydration during flights or long drives.
I will go on to address meal timing as another critical aspect; promoting regular, balanced meals to sustain energy levels and prevent overeating during irregular schedules.
I will also touch on special considerations for international
travel including food safety concerns and adapting to elevation changes. Additionally, anticipating altitude-related challenges such as decreased appetite and increased hydration needs prepares you for elevation changes, especially in mountainous regions.
Cultural dining norms and exploring local cuisines adds depth to the culinary experience, while fostering an appreciation for diverse food traditions. I will offer you advice on navigating menus for healthier options to empower you to make informed choices while savoring global flavors.
Incorporating the strategies learned from my program will allow you to enjoy your journey, while prioritizing your health and well-being. By emphasizing proactive planning, hydration, mindful meal timing, and awareness of international considerations, you can embark on their adventures with confidence, knowing you have the tools to support your nutritional needs wherever your travels take you.
I am a registered dietitian and founder of Dietitian Dish LLC, a virtual nutrition practice based out of New Jersey. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in multiple areas of nutrition since becoming a dietitian. I began my career working with the United States Rowing Team, then went on to gain experience in weight loss surgery, weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dialysis, and critical care. As a dietitian, I firmly believe that thinking more about how we can add nutritious foods and health promoting behaviors into our routine , instead of foods to avoid and following fad diets is the key to long term health outcomes. In my practice, I emphasize individualized nutrition and take into consideration the current scientific research we have available on food and nutrition.
Since becoming a dietitian, I have traveled around the world to countries like Greece, Austria, Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Turks and Caicos Islands, Portugal, Peru, Spain, and more. While exploring the world around me, I have learned greatly on how global foods and flavors can be incorporated into a balance diet.
