Do you want to release excess weight and build a healthier relationship with food? Deanna and you will begin by monitoring what you eat and when. Together, you’ll discuss water intake and why it’s important. You will also get information on the 80/20 approach and an idea of just how important having a fitness regimen can be. Please don’t worry if you don’t have one, that’s okay. There’s no judgment.
After sending your three-day food log (preferably over a Thursday, Friday and Saturday), Deanna and you will begin to see what foods you gravitate towards and what times you tend to eat. Deanna is not interested in how much you eat – just what and how often. She’ll give you instructions for the ‘food log’ in the first session and get a baseline. She will ask for and expect the log within 24 hours of your second session.
In session two, Deanna will teach you about the hierarchy of foods, discuss the concept of bio-individuality (what works for one person won’t necessarily work for another and vice versa) and what crowding out means. Then, you will make a list of the health promoting foods you enjoy in the areas of protein (including dairy), fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and complex carbohydrates. Deanna will explain the differences between simple and complex carbohydrates and introduce you to the Glycemic Index.
By session three, you will see your habits and your relationship with food change as you begin to build a healthy eating plan based on foods you actually enjoy. Please note that this is not a rapid weight loss program and weight loss is not guaranteed. Healthy and sustainable habits will be created using the Transtheoretical Model of Change. Deanna is a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN), a global leader in nutrition education. She has additional certificates from IIN in emotional eating psychology and hormone health.
