The days that follow giving birth are tremendously significant, for mama and for baby. American culture has become so modernized that the majority of people have lost hold of the value for this precious time to heal, recover, rest, adjust, and develop deep connection with their newborn baby. It's time that can never be retrieved!
I want to support you in cultivating a plan for your first 30 days postpartum. There is such demand on modern day mamas that if we want to pursue true rest we have to develop a plan to do so that involves other! Especially if you have multiple children. In order to honor needs and desires during this window of time there must be discussion and decisions related to boundaries, and delegation. Each mamas personal vision for this time will be what we build around. In order for a mama and baby to have rest help must be recruited and appointed. I can't say this enough. Many are hyper-individualized and don't want the vulnerability of involving others, but help from others is your provision for rest. Anything is possible! That said, it's best to schedule this session during your second trimester so there is plenty of time to organize your support team.
Categories within your First 30 Days plan can include:
-nutrition: healing, nurturing, nutrient dense foods
-meals: meal train, frozen food prep, etc.
-sleep: rotating team, decide safe location for mom and baby, room darkening tools, sound buffers, etc.
-childcare: caregivers appointed to care for other children (if applicable)
-healing: a toolkit list of supplies and remedies to aid and support in postpartum healing
-feeding baby: breastfeeding, pumping, supplementing with formula, etc.
-soul health: designated safe people to be transparent with about mental and emotional wellbeing during dramatic changes in hormones.
-supplements: regimen to continue to support body through postpartum needs and breastfeeding to counter depletion
