I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist passionate about making healthy living more attainable. I have worked in a variety of settings from inpatient oncology to outpatient weight management . What these areas all have in common is a need for nutrition to be broken down to simpler terms. We might have seen labels growing up but often never had the opportunity to learn how to use it to our advantage. One thing you gain from looking at the label is the calorie content but food is so much more than just calories. To really meet and exceed our goals we need to understand what is in the food we are eating and how that works in our body.
This session will take a closer look at the nutrition label and also how it has changed over time. Labeling laws change over the years based on what is needed in the market and this can impact how and what we see on the label. We will also look at what information can be gathered from the label and how that can be used to help you reach your health goals because food is more than just calories alone.
Ultimately, what you will gain from this session is an understanding of the different types of nutrition labels, how they have changed over time, and how to use them to meet your health goals. We will discuss what parts of the label you should focus on depending on what your goal is and how to break it down into a more understandable language.
