When I was in my twenties, I thought I was living the epitome of a healthy lifestyle, all while eating anything I wanted, from fried chicken wings to mac and cheese. But that changed when I learned of my borderline high cholesterol. This news sort of scared me and sparked my journey of re-evaluating my nutrition and overall approach to health.
However, it wasn’t until I obtained my group fitness certification with the YMCA and my personal training certification with American Council on Exercise (ACE) over 30 years ago that I gained the understanding that proper nutrition, cardio, and strength training must all work together to achieve optimal fitness goals and help sustain a healthy lifestyle.
Today as a certified ACE Health and Wellness Coach, a Precision Nutrition L1 nutrition coach and a Life Coach, I focus on the whole person—which also includes understanding that sleep and stress management are also critical to sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
Making health and wellness a lifestyle is my mission. I believe that when you do physical activities you enjoy you don’t look at it as a form of exercise. It’s just something you love doing and you just so happen to be gaining the benefits of being active while doing it. A win-win. That’s a way of making it a part of your lifestyle.
I have a deep desire to empower people, mainly women, to live long healthy lives. Let’s eliminate being sedentary, which ultimately results in you struggling to do basic everyday functions like walking up stairs, carrying groceries or picking up that precious child or grandchild without getting out of breath. We owe it to ourselves to thrive and ensure that we can be present and active for life’s precious moments with our children, grandchildren, and loved ones.
